It was a pleasure to work with the team at the museum to create an identity for the 2014 Bradford International Film Festival. I was very excited to be given the opportunity to pitch an idea for the project and it was brilliant when my concept was chosen.
The illustrations show a wide range of characters in a land of film, using the film reels as slides and really getting involved with the media. It shows the characteristics of the festival—the friendliness, the intimacy and the broad-ranging audience.
The imagery needed to function across the whole identity—as posters, for the catalogue cover, as spot illustrations throughout the programme and for an animated trailer. I had to really consider how the imagery would work in each format for such a large project.
After a few rounds of feedback and amendments the identity was ready to go to the final stage. My work often employs traditional printing techniques, so it seemed fitting to use this method for the 20th anniversary of the festival—celebrating its history and accomplishments.
It was great to be involved in the project and, through working with the team, I think the branding has turned out very nicely. It’s brilliant to see people’s reactions to this year’s identity, and that people are getting excited for the festival… It’s going to be a good one!
